Job Description
The Senior Packaging Specialist is responsible for developing and optimising packaging solutions whilst considering economic, legal, and internal requirements. He/she oversees cost optimisation and packaging lifecycle management, supporting Purchasing Managers in supplier negotiations.
Your Tasks:
- Define and implement packaging strategies aligned with overall own brands strategy, collaborating with purchasing, brand, and product teams
- Develop and implement packaging solutions for the entire OBF product portfolio, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Coordinate material flow management, recycling, and waste initiatives with the Labelling & Artwork team
- Monitor packaging costs, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and identify opportunities for cost reductions in collaboration with the Sourcing Cost Analyst
- Identify and implement optimisation initiatives for existing product packaging to enhance quality, sustainability, and efficiency
- Stay updated on international packaging regulations, trends, and technological innovations through market research and attending packaging fairs
- Support OBF direct suppliers in accessing sustainable packaging materials cost-efficiently through engagement with recyclers and external partners
- Analyse international regulatory developments for recycling and waste disposal, ensuring ongoing compliance and sustainability of packaging solutions
Qualifications
- Successfully completed studies in packaging technology or comparable professional training as packaging material specialist (m/f/d)
- Multiple years of in-depth work experience in retail, recycling, plastic conversion, chemicals, packaging manufacturing or consumer product industry (e.g., food & beverage, household, or personal care)
- In-depth knowledge of the life cycle of packaging materials (production, processing, application as well as recycling) incl. printing
- Proven experience in project management and project implementation
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with a structured approach to work
- Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented and economic way of thinking as well as quality awareness
- Contract negotiation skills and experience
- Capability to successfully collaborate in cross-functional teams, ideally in an international environment
- Very good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel
- Business fluent in English, both written and spoken (additional foreign language(s) advantageous)
- Willingness to travel (also internationally)
