Job Purpose
This position is responsible for the dispatch, coordination, and planning of outbound shipments from third-party warehouses supporting multiple JM manufacturing sites and assisting in managing external storage locations. The role involves planning and instructing dispatches, arranging appropriate transportation (including for dangerous goods), and doing so efficiently and cost-effectively in line with Johnson Matthey’s goals. You will coordinate site-specific volumes and requirements to optimize and consolidate delivery lanes and routes. Clear communication with internal teams and third-party warehouse and transport providers is essential to fulfill stakeholder requirements and optimize regional delivery operations. Transportation planning includes route planning, delivery timing alignment, lane quotation and confirmation, vehicle fill optimization, support for customs documentation, and adherence to JM’s security, insurance, and customer requirements.
Role:
As a Regional Transport Planner, you will help drive our goals by:
- Planning, coordinating, and processing regional final delivery requirements and transports including quotations and documentation;
- Monitoring and optimizing the costs, lead times, and utilization of truck’s capacity;
- Act as point of coordination and reference for site-based transport and shipping teams;
- Ensure advance planning of shipments to customers is coordinated with JM manufacturing sites and 3rd party logistic services providers to achieve deliveries within agreed timescales and service levels;
- Support sites to ensure JM receives competitive rates for transportation and has options for transportation through supplier development;
- Controlling and optimizing freight costs (including expedited freight);
- Ensure Hauliers are aware of any specific customer delivery requirements/restrictions. Shipments are made in line with group insurance limits and group security standards. Compliance standards for all duty and customs control, including documentation, correct use of tariff codes, and all required licenses;
- Coordinate and schedule haulier collections to meet Warehouse despatch constraints and control of the shipping process up to final customer arrival;
- Meet cost targets for freight spend and budget adherence, mainly through managing special freight costs appropriately;
- Adherence to Commercial Terms and expectations for dangerous goods transportation.
Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:
- Degree qualified in Logistics or Economics;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in transportation planning or similar role;
- Experience SAP or similar ERP system;
- Knowledge and understanding of import/export legislation;
- Dangerous Goods Transportation knowledge;
- Fluent English knowledge (written and spoken);
- Experience in Supply Chain;
- Advance command in Microsoft Office software.
