Role and Responsibilities
As a DevOps Engineer one should be able to analyze business needs and accordingly design lead drive and implement highly scalable and complex DevOps solutions
In the capacity of an DevOps Observability SME the lead engineer is responsible for taking up lead roles in executing key engagements of rolling out Enterprise DevOps projectsprogramsorganizations They need to build plans and help in implementing key engineering practices at team level The lead engineer is also responsible for creating approach notes making presentations to customers and helping teams with DevOps adoption
The key responsibilities may involve some or all the areas listed below
Design and implementation of Observability Solutions
Lead implement and support observability solution designs leveraging Open Telemetry framework for all our storage infrastructure platforms including DellEMC Netapp HPE Cisco Brocade Pure
Extensive Code development including the design development monitor and maintain multiple CICD pipeline automation
Robust knowledge implementing distributed tracing metrics and logging using Open Telemetry framework
Design and build instrumentation for applications services and APIs to capture telemetry data
Ensure proper context propagation across microservices for tracing
Collaborate and communicate well with stakeholders to drive transformations and improvements Strong written and verbal communication comfortable with varying and reactive daily responsibilities
Integrations with existing frameworks
Robust knowledge with integrating Open Telemetry with popular monitoring tools like Prometheus Kafka Grafana Splunk
Customize instrumentations for specific programming languages or frameworks egJava Python Nodejs
Create workflows to migrate existing observability frameworks to open telemetry where applicable
Telemetry Data Analysis
Collect and analyze telemetry data to identify performance bottlenecks errors and anomalies
Ability to develop dashboardsreports for realtime and historical data analysis leveraging standard opensource tools like Grafana
Performance Optimization
Robust understanding on how to optimize the performance of the telemetry collection to minimize overhead on applications
Ability to troubleshoot and debug instrumentation issues
Documentation
Write and maintain clear documentation for telemetry setups instrumentation guidelines and troubleshooting steps
Ensure compliance with open telemetry standards and maintain consistent telemetry practices across projects
Contributions to Open Telemetry
Contribute to the framework project by or plugins by writing code fixing bugs or adding new features
Keep up to date with latest developments in the open telemetry space and integrate them into the observability stack
Identifying new tools and processes to improve the DevOps platform and automate processes
Monitoring and Maintenance
Monitor the health and reliability of the telemetry infrastructure
Respond to incidents related to observability and telemetry tools
Compliance and security
Ensure handling of telemetry data following security standards
Comply with regulatory and organizational requirements related to data observability and privacy
Preferred Professional Expertise
Ability to be hands on in technologyprogramming environment perform design and code reviews conduct independent testing and handle overall change management processes and implementation activities and post implementation support
Experience in automated implementationdeployment of code in cloud infrastructure
Experience in conducting enterprise level assessment prepare solutions strategic solutions for improved developer experience
