We’re looking for a Software Engineer with experience in Ruby or Go to join our Contact Center team, working on our Voice products. Zendesk Talk is a complex, real-time communication platform that must be robust, scalable, and maintainable. You’ll help evolve and optimize the architecture behind our telephony solutions, supporting both product development and infrastructure with a strong engineering mindset.
What you’ll do
Design, build, and maintain backend services primarily in Ruby or Go , supporting the Voice platform’s performance, scale, and reliability.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to deliver new features and improve existing systems.
Work closely with DevOps and SREs to support and evolve our cloud infrastructure on AWS , ensuring reliability and scalability.
Build and improve our CI/CD pipelines to support rapid and safe deployments.
Contribute to initiatives around security, compliance , and observability across services.
Participate in incident response and drive long-term solutions to recurring issues.
Drive continuous improvements in system design, operational efficiency, and developer workflows.
Share knowledge and mentor peers across engineering and infrastructure disciplines.
What you bring to the role
2–4 years of professional experience in backend software development, preferably using Ruby or Go .
Experience working within a cloud-based environment, ideally AWS , and knowledge of the AWS Well-Architected Framework .
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code practices; experience with CloudFormation is a plus.
Proficiency in CI/CD tooling and automation pipelines.
Strong systems thinking, with the ability to understand how backend services interact with infrastructure layers.
Hands-on experience supporting production systems with critical SLAs and high availability requirements.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
