About the Team:
The Business Risk team, which is a part of the Capital Markets Transfer Agent, supports various clients to ensure compliance with internal policies and all applicable laws and regulations aimed at combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other financial crimes. Unclaimed Properties are accounts that belong to lost or inactive shareholders – escheatment is the process of transferring such properties to the US States and Territories according to their regulations. The team is responsible for providing unclaimed property & escheatment services to FIS clients, monitoring and managing databases of inactive and abandoned accounts, analysis of unclaimed property data and other high-risk processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable local and global regulations.
What you will be doing:
- Have a good understanding of unclaimed property processes and procedures.
- Work with the external vendor to prepare escheatment-related mailings to Financial Professionals and Shareholders, complete unclaimed property reporting to the states and perform regulatory searches for lost shareholders.
- Perform researches for inactive shareholders using internal and external tools to locate new contact information and prevent escheatment.
- Respond to escheatment-related inquiries from states officials, FIS clients and TA teams.
- Support external and internal audits efforts for FIS clients.
- Prepare and review complex reports for inactive accounts used for escheatment mailings and processes.
- Monitor and maintain Activity Tracking for Shareholders using automated solutions and daily reports.
- Collaborate with external vendor, states agencies and various TA teams to prepare and complete escheatment remittance according to the states regulations.
- Store and maintain Unclaimed Property records according to regulatory requirements and data retention policies.
- Ensure good quality of vendor’s work by ad hoc review of letters and files prepared by the vendor.
- Communicate crucial escheatment updates to impacted FIS teams and clients.
- Identifies areas of potential improvements for day-to-day work and tools used by the team.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws related to Unclaimed Property and Escheatment.
What you bring:
- Candidate with TA business and applications knowledge.
- Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years Transfer Agent experience or equivalent Investment Industry experience
- Fluent knowledge of English (spoken and written)
- Strong PC knowledge including use of MS Office products with a focus on Excel.
- Ability to perform work under minimal supervision.
- Good analytical skills
- Ability to interact with TA teams in a multi-site environment.
- Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to understand technical documents and legal or regulatory reference materials
- Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills
Added bonus if you have:
- Experience in Unclaimed Property & Escheatment work in TA industry
- Good understanding of TA procedures related to change of ownership and/or beneficiary distribution.
