Here at Relativity we prioritize flexibility and work-life harmony. Our Hybrid work environment provides options tailored to your role and location, aiming to enhance engagement, connectivity, and productivity.Join us to experience a culture of collaboration and innovation, where connecting in-person adds value to our collective growth. Let's work together!
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Compute team within the Infrastructure Services group, you will be the strategic and technical authority responsible for defining the future of compute infrastructure in RelativityOne. You will architect unified execution models for microservices, batch jobs, streaming pipelines, and long-running workflows—leveraging Azure-native technologies such as AKS (Kubernetes), KEDA, Temporal, and Apache Spark.
You will shape cross-cutting platform architecture, influencing compute, storage, observability, and developer experience. Partnering with engineering leadership and platform stakeholders, you’ll drive Relativity’s transition toward cloud-native, scalable, and developer-optimized compute platforms that power a wide range of use cases across the company.
Job Description and Requirements
Job Responsibilities:
Define and evolve the technical strategy for Relativity’s compute platform, enabling scale, elasticity, and resilience across all workload types
Architect foundational cloud-native execution layers supporting long-running workflows, real-time stream processing, and large-scale batch jobs
Drive platform-wide adoption of Kubernetes, KEDA, and Temporal for robust and observable orchestration of compute workloads
Integrate modern data processing technologies like Apache Spark, Azure Stream Analytics, and event-driven patterns across product services
Lead multi-team initiatives to decouple legacy workloads into scalable microservices, containers, or serverless compute
Partner with product and platform architects to align compute platform direction with customer, compliance, and reliability goals
Mentor Staff and Lead Engineers across the company on scalable system design, cloud-native operations, and compute strategies
Actively contribute to architecture reviews, RFCs, design governance, and strategic planning cycles
Champion platform quality, security, and developer experience as first-class goals
Minimum Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering roles, with demonstrated architectural leadership
Proven success designing and operating large-scale Kubernetes-based compute infrastructure in production
Strong experience with orchestration frameworks such as KEDA, Temporal, or similar job/workflow engines
Hands-on experience with batch (e.g., Apache Spark) and streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Azure Event Hubs)
Fluency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, C#, Rust) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi)
Deep understanding of workload autoscaling, distributed system patterns, and compute security best practices
Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams and influencing broad platform strategy
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building internal compute platforms or "platform-as-a-product" offerings
Knowledge of serverless platforms such as Azure Functions or Azure Container Apps
Familiarity with Dapr, KEDA Scalers, and emerging workload runtime frameworks (e.g., Wasm, Nomad, OpenFaaS)
Prior contributions to open-source cloud-native or CNCF projects
Experience designing systems with multi-region, multi-tenancy, or zero-downtime execution requirements
Leadership Expectations:
Set the long-term vision for compute infrastructure at Relativity, aligning technical direction with business growth
Influence engineering and product teams through clear communication, architectural guidance, and technical credibility
Lead complex cross-functional efforts that span compute, data, security, and reliability
Create a culture of engineering excellence, experimentation, and continuous improvement
Mentor senior technical talent and foster a platform-minded, service-oriented engineering culture
Competencies and Skills:
Architectural Vision – Ability to define and communicate the long-term compute strategy that supports diverse workload needs
Technical Leadership – Deep technical authority that guides teams, resolves ambiguity, and de-risks large initiatives
Cross-Functional Influence – Works effectively with leaders across platform, product, and infrastructure groups
Cloud-Native Execution – Expert in modern compute orchestration, scaling, and event-driven workloads on Azure
Innovation and Pragmatism – Balances cutting-edge solutions with production-ready practices and customer needs
Benefit Highlights:
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans
Parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers
Flexible work arrangements
Two, week-long company breaks per year
Unlimited time off
Long-term incentive program
Training investment program
