About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Internal Control Specialist to drive the implementation and continuous improvement of our internal control framework, with a focus on application controls and SAP authorizations. This role partners closely with global business leaders, audit teams, and IT to ensure a strong, risk-balanced control environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and assess application and automated controls, including the AkzoNobel Golden Rules Set.
• Approve and manage segregation of duties (SoD) conflicts via SAP GRC.
• Conduct impact assessments on IT changes and define related monitoring plans.
• Liaise with internal/external auditors and support action plan execution across entities.
• Drive standardization of internal control practices globally across functions and regions.
• Train and support reporting units to embed best-in-class internal control practices.
• Support risk mitigation by designing and communicating effective control solutions.
• Collaborate with Global Process Owners (GPOs), Information Management, and business leaders to improve framework design and application.

Job requirements

• Completed higher education with a focus on business, finance, IT, or a related field.
• Solid hands-on experience in SAP access, application controls, or internal control frameworks
• Strong knowledge of SAP GRC and automated controls.
• Background in Governance, Risk & Compliance and/or audit (e.g. Big 4 environment).
• Excellent communication skills in English—both verbal and written.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and consulting skills; proficient in Excel and Power BI.
• High integrity, with strong prioritization and influencing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cultures and functions.
