YOUR ROLE
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of backend, frontend, and data engineers within Cognism’s Data Engineering team. In this high-impact role, you’ll guide the development of scalable distributed systems that power our internal data platform. You’ll shape the technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and ensure successful collaboration across product and data teams.
YOUR CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES

Lead a High-Impact Team – Manage a team of engineers across backend, frontend, and data disciplines, ensuring delivery, performance, and alignment with Cognism’s engineering standards.

Mentor & Develop Talent – Conduct regular 1:1s, provide actionable feedback, and support career development for each team member.

Drive Technical Excellence – Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews, providing strategic and technical guidance across projects.

Shape the Roadmap – Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to define and deliver on the team’s roadmap and goals.

Own Execution – Oversee delivery of services and features owned by the team, ensuring quality and timeliness.

Promote Best Practices – Champion engineering principles and processes that enhance collaboration, scalability, and system resilience.

Cross-Team Collaboration – Work closely with teams across data engineering, research, infrastructure, and beyond to align on key initiatives.

Drive Knowledge Sharing – Establish and maintain strong documentation practices and onboarding processes.
OUR EXPECTATIONS

Leadership Experience – 2+ years of people or technical leadership, with 5+ years in software engineering.

Technical Depth – Proven experience with distributed systems and microservice-based architectures.

Code Fluency – Ability to read and review production code, and guide engineers on architectural decisions.

Cloud-Native Mindset – Familiar with serverless data processing tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3), with a preference for AWS experience.

Strong Communication – Skilled at influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

Track Record of Delivery – Demonstrated success in managing and delivering complex software projects.

Collaborative Leadership – Builds trust, promotes alignment, and fosters an inclusive, high-performing team culture.

Scala – Especially with Play Framework and Pekko (or other strongly typed, object-oriented or functional languages).

AWS – Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3.

Data Tools – Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS Athena, MongoDB, SQL, Apache Iceberg.

Frontend – Angular (limited involvement, but understanding is helpful).

Collaboration Tools – Jira (capacity planning), Asana (roadmap alignment), Confluence (documentation), Figma (feature planning).
