Role Description/Purpose:

In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the British Council’s cultural relations mission and its global English strategy. You will deliver English language teaching to the highest standards, helping to enhance the British Council’s reputation as a world authority in English Language Teaching (ELT). Your contribution will extend beyond the classroom, as you engage in ongoing professional development and actively share best practices with your colleagues.

Role Accountabilities:

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic English language teacher to join our team at the British Council. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality English teaching that meets the diverse needs of our learners, while contributing to the broader goals of cultural exchange and educational excellence.
As a teacher, you will plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons tailored to different customer groups, ensuring that individual learning needs and modes of learning are considered. Your teaching will align with British Council Global Teaching Standards and meet both organisational and learner expectations. You will monitor student progress, provide regular feedback, and encourage learner autonomy to support continuous improvement.
Professional development is central to this role. You will actively participate in performance management and training opportunities to maintain high standards and stay at the forefront of best practices in English Language Teaching. Your involvement will also extend to supporting teaching centre activities, attending staff meetings, and contributing to the development and evaluation of courses and materials. You will assist in local marketing efforts and help deliver excellent customer service through effective communication and information sharing.
Building strong relationships with students and colleagues is essential. You will help learners engage with British Council’s cultural relations mission, offering opportunities for intercultural interaction both in and outside the classroom. You will also ensure that all work complies with policies on Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, and Health and Safety.

Qualifications & Experience

Essentials

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cambridge CELTA) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Trinity TESOL).
  • A minimum of 2 years post-certificate i.e. Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity CertTESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
  • Proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) C2 level.

Desirables

  • Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cambridge DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL).
  • Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners (Cambridge CELTYL) or Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (Trnity TYLEC).
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) preparation.
  • Experience teaching Early Years students aged 2 to 5.

Important Information:

  • Location: Warsaw.
  • Gross Monthly salary: From 5,673.75 PLN, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Proof of Identity & Right to Work: Locally Recruited - Applications are welcomed from candidates currently in this location with a natural right to work. Applications are also welcomed from candidates currently based in other British Council country offices. However, please note candidates must have a natural right to work in the country, on a permanent basis, as immigration clearance and/or on-going visa support is not provided by the British Council for this role. Relocation support is also not provided.
  • Contract type: One Year Fixed-term.
  • Contracted hours: maximum 18 hours teaching per week.
  • Working Hours: Between Tuesdays and Fridays in the afternoon. On Saturdays in the morning and afternoon.
