Job Title: Senior UX/UI Designer
Location: Hybrid – Austin, TX
Job Type: Long-Term Contract / Full-Time Hours
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to lead large-scale user experience and interface design efforts for digital products. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in translating research into actionable design solutions, conducting usability testing, and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. This role requires close collaboration with product teams, developers, and senior leadership to create user-centered digital experiences that align with agency and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee UX/UI designs to ensure alignment with agency-wide standards and industry best practices.
Translate research into user stories, requirements, flows, wireframes, and prototypes while contributing to the product roadmap.
Conduct user testing and outreach to validate that products meet end-user needs.
Collaborate with product teams, leadership, designers, developers, and product managers on design solutions.
Create and refine wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using Figma or comparable design tools.
Ensure all designs and websites comply with federal accessibility guidelines (Section 508, WCAG 2.1).
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years in software product development, digital design, or UX/UI.
8+ years designing mockups/wireframes that follow UX best practices.
8+ years conducting user and usability research.
5+ years strong writing, organizational, and facilitation skills.
4+ years leading large-scale UX/UI design efforts.
4+ years hands-on experience with Figma (or similar design software).
3+ years experience ensuring accessibility compliance in digital products.
1+ year portfolio showcasing user research, visual design, and usability studies.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years experience with Atlassian Jira or similar issue-tracking software.
2+ years experience working with TEA (Texas Education Agency) or other state/local education agencies.
Skills & Competencies
Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
Ability to transform complex requirements into simple, user-friendly solutions.
Proficiency in usability testing and accessibility standards.
Experience working cross-functionally with product managers and developers.
